It seems like everyone that doesn’t even train sure has a whole lot to say about our training. Maybe if they spent a little more time in the gym, they wouldn’t have so much time to walk around saying ignorant things to people that are healthier, stronger, and better looking than them.
8. “You’re on roids.”
It takes a lot more than just a few roids to get this huge, and even if I was on the juice, it’s none of your business. People who go around acting like anyone who gets big at the gym is just using shortcuts and cheating literally have no idea what they’re talking about. Just because I’m bigger and stronger than them,
7. “Have you seen those crazy pics of people who inject oil?”
Yes, yes I have seen pictures of people that abuse Synthol. They’re ridiculous, they’re fun to laugh at, but at the end of the day these people are mentally ill. Those of us inside the gym culture that have worked hard, bled, and poured out gallons of sweat a week have earned the rite of passage to clown on the Synths, but if you don’t even life – you’re in the same boat as they are, so you’re only clowning yourself.
6. “Can you train me?”
Oh you mean for free? I mean, I could. What are your hobbies, though? You like to build ships in bottles? Make me one. You like to play guitar? Write me a song. You like to read books? Read to me. Do you get the point? Just because I train and have put in years to learning all about nutrition and how to get big, doesn’t mean I have time to help the world get swole, too. That doesn’t mean I won’t help you and answer questions, but don’t expect my new full time job to be helping train you. There’s a certain type of person who will be happy to help… they’re called trainers.
5. When they just stare at you in awe…
Actually, this one isn’t so bad. We’ve worked hard to get built, and we’re showing these people muscles that they didn’t even realize existed.
4. “Can I get your number?”
Sure, you could get my number if you took better care of yourself, but I put in countless hours in the gym not only to feel good and to be strong and healthy, but also to look good and to attract partners that also take the time and effort to look their best. If I gave you my number, that would throw off the entire balance of the universe.
3. “Can you spot me?”
Look, I’m always down to offer up a spot, and I’ll do it… but do you really need a spot when you’re benching the bar and a couple 10’s? I mean, sure, you probably read some article on some dumb gym site that said you NEED a spotter when you’re starting out, but let’s be serious here, you’ll be just fine. But by all means, come over and interrupt me while I’m in the middle of set so that I can spot you on the elliptical.
2. “I’d be huge too, if I had the time and money.”
You think I’m rich and I have nothing but free time on my hands? Nope, I just know how to budget my time. I don’t get to watch every episode of every TV show, so I might not know who killed whom on this week’s Game of Thrones, but I’ve got a sick set of biceps that don’t even care. If all that’s stopping you from being this big is money, it doesn’t cost much. If all that’s stopping you is time, make time. There are a lot of reasons that you aren’t like me, time and money aren’t any of the reasons.
1. “I wish I had your…”
Arms, legs, back, whatever it is. Well guess what, I didn’t just find some magic bottle with a genie it in to achieve this physique, it took years of work, so wishing isn’t going to get you anywhere. You’ve got to lift.
