Jesse Shand, standing in at 700 Lbs at the age of 28, decided to change his Life with the help of the Internet, believe it or not. And it was 100% unintended.
Thanks to the wildly popular community over at Bodybuilding.com, which is usually a place where trolled and made fun of aspiring bodybuilders, his plan to get some laughs out of the community totally backfired on him after posting pictures of himself with the title “Ask the fattest man on the misc anything”.
Little did he know that this thread would change his entire life – for the better.
Shand was tipping the scales at 700 lbs and his plan to troll other bodybuilders with his body wasn’t working – but instead, motivated him to start getting fit himself.
Bodybuilding forum goers started to convince Shand that it wasn’t to late and that he could still change the outcome of his life and get fit. He responded with all sorts of excuses after excuses, at times saying he couldn’t even afford food or proper groceries for his meal plans.
If you know anything about Bodybuilding.com’s “MISC” forums, it was literally the place to be as young bodybuilder to come and mess with other people’s threads and such. But as Shand was doing most of the trolling, the tides decided to turn and along with other forums members and support for his fitness and health, along with his weight-loss was quickly mounting.
Forum members started giving him advice on work-outs, meal plans and everything in between.
He says, “It really showed me that even on the Internet, the kindness of strangers can completely change your life. It helped me to realize that I had something to fight for, They’re the ones who took me under their wings and believed in me long before I believed in myself.”
One of the biggest tipping points for Shand was when some of the members on the forum decided to through some money together and buy him a Gym membership, where Shand eventually found his stride and went full-tilt in his battle against obesity.
2 Years after starting his massive weight drop, he is down a Staggering 376 LBS and has started a GoFundMe to raise money for a Surgery that will remove all excess skin off his body.
