CT Fletcher went after Rogan on twitter in ALL CAPS after UFC 201, which saw Tyron Woodley knock out the then-Champion Robbie Lawler. Robbie has been on a real tear lately, so it was a big surprise to most people to see him lose in such a devastating fashion.
Woodley is one of the most explosive fighters on the roster, but his downfall is that he tends to slow down after the first or second round, due to fatigue. Rogan has often said that there’s a sweet spot for fighters, and a point of diminishing returns where having extra muscle mass will actually start to hurt them instead of helping them.
You’ve got to fuel all those muscles, and that can really take a lot out of the gas tank, especially when you’v’e got an opponent who is bringing the pressure constantly.
Basically, all Joe said to set off CT Fletcher is that Tyron Woodley carries around a lot of muscle mass, and that if the fight went into the championship rounds (Title fights are 5 rounds as opposed to the usual three, so rounds 4 and 5 are referred to as “The championship rounds”), that Woodley poses the risk of becoming tired and more vulnerable to Robbie’s attacks. Couple this with the fact that Robbie is known to excel in the later rounds, to the point where he even sells a t-shirt saying “5th Round Robbie”, and Joe’s statement isn’t controversial at all.
But C.T. didn’t like it. As a huge muscled guy, C.T. doesn’t want to acknowledge that a massive jacked guy is going to get gassed a little easier than a leaner guy with better cardio.
Here’s CT Fletcher being backed up by Kali, Joe’s initial response, and then another UFC fighter named Cole Miller chiming in.
CT goes on to point out the difference between “add-on muscle” and “born with it muscle”, admitting that you’ll get tired more quickly if you have “add-on muscle”, but that “born with it” muscle works differently so that it won’t tired you out to fuel it.
Anyways, check out the conversation:
It goes on….
Then it basically gets diffused…
Joe was basically just doing his job of breaking down fights, but something about the fact that fueling more muscle mass makes you get tired sooner really struck a chord with C.T. and Kali Muscle. C.T. ended by inviting Joe Rogan to a private session…
“MY WORKOUTS ARE DESIGNED TO TEST MUSCULAR ENDURANCE, POWER, AND MENTAL TOUGHNESS, I INVITE YOU TO A PRIVATE SESSION ANYTIME.”
If C.T. Flether is holding the keys to stop the most jacked MMA fighters from getting tired in a fight, the UFC is about to get a whole lot nastier.
