Fitness model Michelle Middleton has taken to Instagram to physically demonstrate the impact FODMAP foods have on her body.
FODMAPs are short-chain carbohydrates that are poorly absorbed in the small intestine. These foods pass into the intestines without being digested, where colonic acid tries to break the food down. All this stuff results in the food actually fermenting inside you and bloating is the result.
Both the shots were taken on the same day after Middleton had eaten FODMAP foods. She said,
“I get bloated all the time. I pretty much know what foods are going to bloat me so it’s just a matter of if I care or not. I followed FODMAP in the past to figure out what works or doesn’t work for me and it helped immensely. That’s why I recommend girls who tend to get bloated to try a low Fodmap diet. So don’t freak out if your (sic) bloated. It’s only temporary and will go away.”
It seems that bloating is a problem for many fitness models who are eager to share their experience online. UK based fitness model Jelly Devote who’s Instagram feed includes a series of posts demonstrating the “tricks” used to paint models in the best possible light online, shared her own bloating photo.
Devote said,
It’s NORMAL to swell up and bloat after food/drink. Your (sic) obvs gonna get bigger relaxed if you drink 2l of water and eat! But that does NOT make you fatter! Stomachs change shape ALL THE DARN TIME!!!
