While on suspension for driving his vehicle into a pregnant woman’s car, breaking her arm, fleeing the scene, returning to the scene moments later to pick up cash and who-knows-what-else from his center console, then fleeing the scene once again… Jon Jones had a lot of time for soul searching and community service…
He’s on a quest to get his belt back, after being stripped of it for his activities outside the cage.
He also took up power lifting as part of his training regimen to put on more mass, and has been posting about it on his Instagram nearly every single day. He’s been hanging out with guys like Sadik, getting sponsored by supplement companies, and basically just lifting real heavy things and setting new personal records for every important lift.
Leading up to the fight, everyone was excited to hear about this new version on Jon Jones.
“If he did so good when he was on drugs and wasn’t even trying, imagine what he’ll look like now?” was the general consensus among fans.
His coach, Greg Jackson, on the other hand – wasn’t nearly as impressed by Jon’s new found gains.
In an audio clip that was released from Jones’ corner during the fight, you can overhear Jackson saying:
“Jackson: Powerlifting’s a problem. He gasses. I only want to do an I-told-you-so dance right now.”
Jon was fighting a less-regarded fighter in Ovince Staint-Preux, and a lot of people were writing the guy off, but he ended up lasting 5 rounds against arguably the greatest martial arts fighter of all time.
